Hi
Is it possible to use Power Apps licences and Dynamics 365 Licences in the same environment. So for those that have Power Apps licences, can they have their own Model Driven App to access the Dataverse without using any of the Dynamics Solutions such as Customer Service?
So I have a custom entity that doesn't have any Dynamics components, can I have this as a solution in the same environment as the Dynamics solutions but access is through a different model driven app, that is for Power App licenced users only?
Is Dataverse Dynamics 365 only? Or can it be Power Apps too?
Many thanks
Hi dsammied,
basically in the mentioned constellation, the licenses are Tenant and User related and not per environment. In general counts that the license with the "higher" functions override the license with the "lower" functions by interacting together - so yes, it is possible to use both licenses. If you for example have Dynamics 365 licenses you will therefore have included limited functions of Power Apps. If you moreover have licenses/plan for Power Apps, you can additionally use extended functions of Power Apps in the same environment. You can have as many environments as your capacity in the Power Platform Admin Center allows.
>> The User now can access for what he/she has the correct license and security role (rights). The license override always the given rights.
>> Without the license and right the User will not be able to access applications or part of applications or tools
>> Licenses and rights can enable limited overarching functions for other related applications or tools
For more information about licenses you can have a look into the Microsoft licensing documents. https://www.microsoft.com/licensing/docs/view/Licensing-Guides. For more information about Power Platform based application roles and rights you can have a look into Microsoft Docs e.g. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/security-roles-privileges.
Dataverse (former Common Data Service) is a data platform built on Power Apps with underlying Azure Cloud Data Management Services. Each environment in the Power Platform has one Dataverse database. To get therefore the exact infomation you need, have a look into the Microsoft Documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/data-platform/data-platform-intro.

*Due to the complex and different possibilities of deploying Dynamics 365 I highly recommend not to setup the application without some expert/partner or support. (For more information contact me under anassl@inno-solutions.info or visit www.inno-solutions.de)
