Is it possible to extend copilot in new forms to provide a summary like the summary tab in customers and sales orders?

As of 10.0.45, much of the framework is still internal, so the direct answer to your question is no. The class that builds the summary in the standard application is called AppCopilotSummaryController.
If others have been successful in extending it, I stand corrected.

My advice is to roll your own summary functionality, maybe even using the sidecar. Ariste recently published a blog post on the topic: https://ariste.info/2025/09/create-client-plugins-copilot-studio-d365-fo/

Yeah, you can definitely extend any form with whatever logic you like for the AI.

This blog post I assume? This is for the chat part, not summary https://community.dynamics.com/blogs/post/?postid=4999ebfb-dce6-ef11-a730-6045bdd78726

I haven’t managed to develop a new summary for a custom form in D365 F&O, so I’d love to see someone develop it. (-:

Edit: For clarity sake there has been an edit in the replies, so the context of this reply might no longer be accurate.

    Hi Abdullah,

For the summary, there is not an option to extend this today as Jonas mentioned. The summary features are using Azure AI Foundry today which is internally called by Microsoft. Like other features, the summaries are developed as initial version to learn about usage and finetune the outcomes. Microsoft is aware of the requirements to manage your own summaries and will most likely add something to the roadmap. It is not on the current release plan (2025 wave 2), but might be part of a future plan.

Use the Azure AI foundery and publish your model to an Endpoint, Once you have the endpoint available, you can use it from  anywhere, be it Dynamics 365 F&O (Via C#) or on any other platform.

@Sohaib Cheema thank you for sharing the following, and yes it is indeed correct that you can use C# to solve this need.
We are utilizing these services at my work places for other source systems, and they do indeed work.

And as said prior in the first reply, you are able to leverage data from F&O.

However, and for giving some clarity to the original poster, you are not able to leverage standard summary controls in custom forms.

What the original poster can, to emulate the look of the standard controls, is to implement his own adaptive cards that utilizes either AI services in Azure, or Copilot Studio.

    Hi @Jonas "Jones" Melgaard

Thank you for the clarification.. I've followed @Sohaib Cheema post and I faced some problems:

1- Does that work on dev machines or only UAT and Live?

2- I can't find System administration > Setup > Synchronize Dataverse Custom APIs

You have to make sure that you have that feature turned on: (Preview) Custom API Generation

Only then that form would appear under System Admin >> Setup

Thank you @Sohaib Cheema, I enabled the feature on dev and UAT and I found Synchronize Dataverse Custom APIs
only on UAT. Also I can't find the summary tab in customer and sales order on my dev machine.

I wonder if it's possible to install copilot on my dev machine?

those summary tabs are also controlled via Feature management, if feature is off it would not appear. You can see those by searching using the keyword Summary. Also you can see some new additional feature using the keyword copilot

As for these not working in the development system, these would not work on local VHD. I am not sure about the CHE, but on UDE and tier-2 these do work.
