Preventing duplicate Contacts in a Dynamics 365 Sales + ClickDimensions setup.

Hello Community,

We use Dynamics 365 Sales Hub integrated with ClickDimensions. Ops team sends a spreadsheet to Comms, Comms imports it into ClickDimensions, a marketing list is created, and campaign emails are sent from ClickDimensions.

The problem is duplicate Contacts. We want the system to recognise when a Contact already exists in CRM by email address, reuse that Contact, and still include the person in the marketing list. If the Contact does not exist, we want a new Contact created and then added to the marketing list.

Has anyone implemented this pattern successfully, and are there any ClickDimensions-specific caveats around matching existing Contacts, list membership, or duplicate handling during imports.

I look forward to hearing from the community.

Regards,
Chi

    for enforce email uniqueness.
    Two options:

Option A – Duplicate detection rule
    • Contact.EmailAddress1 = Contact.EmailAddress1
    Option B – Plugin / Power Automate
    • Block creation if email already exists.
This guarantees one contact per email.

this pattern is supported out of the box with CD Imports , just key caveat you should be aware of or take care that It matches against both active and inactive records, This can cause inactive Contacts to be selected and added to marketing lists.
to prevent that you can follow two ways:
    • Use a Power Automate flow to remove inactive Contacts from Marketing Lists after import.
    • Do a prework and identify the contacts from your import list that if any contacts already exist as inactive , then activate it if required
I am not sure here that when you said "The problem is duplicate Contact" , are those duplicate in your system already? , then CD import would take first record matching with email, no prioritization can be set for that scenario.
