I am having an issue while installing MR 2012 CU10, under "Database GP Connection Information" no matter what I enter, I get the same error

"Couldn't retrieve the list of available databases: The connection attempt failed."

I checked everything according to a previous post Management Reporter 2012 RU4 GP connection error, the guy says that he opened a case with microsoft and this is bug. I tried his solution to copy and paste the password and still not working

PLEASE HELP !

Take a look at the Windows Event Log or the Configuration Console as they will contain a more detailed error message.

nothing at all on event viewer

I checked everything and no log is kept for that. It seems the window is not checking my authentication against the database, no matter what I write it gives the same error

at the same time, if i put the same user name and password for sa under the "connect to existing database" section, it retreve the databases

the link i posted for a very similar issue which ended in a case with microsoft reporting this as a bug, i tried to put the password on notepad and then copy/paste to MR, and not work

    Please your help

Just tried this myself in a new VM and am getting the same error as you are. I have successfully installed CU10 without seeing this problem in the past though so not sure what is causing it now.

I came across this issue several days ago with the release of  GP 2015 as I created a virtual environment (Hyper-V), I am still struggling to find out what's the root cause of this issue

The scenario that is described by Z.N precisely occurs on my VM, if I enter the credentials on the connect to existing database, the databases are retrieved correctly. The issue is primarily related to the Database GP Connection Information section, it is not doing any check against the database.

I will keep you posted in case anything new emerges at my side.

This is might be related to ODBC on the client computer that connects to GP has a different name for the SQL server versus companies on MR.  Can you please  try the following.

    1. Start SQL Server Management Studio and log on as the sa user.

    2. Open a new query window and run this statement against the MR database:

    select * from ControlCompany

You will see each of your companies listed in the Code and Name columns.

    3. Find your company and then to the right of it examine the GLEntityConnectionInformation column. You may find it easiest to copy the cell out to Notepad and view it.

    4. Find the value for the SQL Server. It can be found in this string:

    <EntitySetting Name="SQL Server"> <Value xsi:type="xsd:string">server_name</Value>

    Note the server name.

    5. Open Control Panel and then Administrative Tools. Open Data Sources. If you are using a 64-bit OS, you can go to C:\Windows\SysWow64\odbcad32.exe and then open the ODBC.

    6. Configure the ODBC and note the Server field on the first page. This must match the server name from step 4.

    7. In SQL Server Management Studio, expand the MR database and then expand Tables.

    8. Right-click the ControlCompany table and then select Edit Top 200 Rows.

    9. Update the server name in the GLEntityConnectionInformation column. Update the server name in the following string:

    <EntitySetting Name="SQL Server"> <Value xsi:type="xsd:string">server_name</Value> </EntitySetting>
