Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Archived)

External users (customers) cannot see font in PDFs from NAV

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Our documents keep showing gumbled characters - similar to webdings, but I don't think it is actually this. It is happening when we generate a PDF from Nav (sales invoice, PO document, can be anything it seems) and we send it to an external user (a customer or vendor). They will report back to us that they "can't read the PDF" - and a screenshot will always reveal the strange characters in place of actual characters.

Oddly enough, anything that is in bold will always show up fine.

It is like they don't have the plain version of the font we use installed. (We use Arial) We tried switching to another common font (Times New Roman) and this seemed to have worked... until today we got another user reporting the same thing.

Anyone run into this same issue in Nav 2017?

Try sending a test PDF to external email address / computer. You can tell if the issue is from your side or their side.

Or try turning on PDFFontEmbedding on the report.

When generating a document to send to your external customer/vendor, tick the box "Edit in Outlook". Then send the message in outlook.

The attachment will be a standard Adobe (.pdf) file.
