Lead Sources and Source Campaigns

Hi All,

I've been set the task of correctly setting up our companies CRM as my predecessor appears to have put it together in a strange way.

One of the first things is to get our Leads working correctly. Our Lead Source has a huge list of options some of which will become campaigns.

The Issue I am having is to do with Lead Sources such as 'Website', 'Social Media' & 'Search Engine'. Each of these can have sub options such as the different search engines or social media streams. At the moment our marketing department wants to create Source Campaigns for each sub option essentially and note give it an end date. Not really a true Campaign.

What have other people configured in CRM to cope with the extra data marketing want to capture?

I would like to configure a secondary Lead Source list that is filtered on based on the first choice, but I have a feeling this isn't possible in CRM 2013.

It might be better to create a Lead Source entity and then include this as a lookup on the lead entity.

This way you could create new records (Lead Sources) for each new mini campaign and hold some extra details like start, end date

I can see the advantage of using an Entity rather than an option set but we are not looking to change these all the time.

How would you specify a Lead source of 'Search engine' but then also record Google for example, without having to create a lead source called 'Search Engine - Google'?

Create two custom entities - Primary Lead Source and Secondary Lead Source and configure a 1:N relationship between Primary Lead Source and Secondary Lead Source.  Now, add these entities as lookups on the Campaign Form. For the Secondary Lead Source, modify the Lookup view to show only the records related to the Primary Lead source.
