Export to Data Lake and CDMUtil. I am exporting Entities but no files appear under the Entities folder

Hi,

I have installed the Export to data lake add-in to a sandbox F&O environment and am exporting tables to the data lake successfully. I have a question about exporting entities to the lake. I can see all of the tables that make up my Entity are being exported to the Lake however I am unable to find any manifest files for the entity itself.

My main goal is to use the CDMUtil to create a view of the Entity in my Synapse serverless database. I thought that I had used the config file in CDMUtil with the entity option but I am unable to see my Vendors V2 entity in the database. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Ravi

When you select entities to be exported, what the system does is to export the tables related to that entity, so you won't find the VendVendorsV2Entity in the data lake, what you'll find is for example the VendTable and DirPartyTable tables among others

Hi Mariano, thanks for responding. I am aware that the tables are exported and not the Entity but I was hoping that by exporting  the Entity it would also generate a json file that defined the flattened Entity/Table . I thought that the CDMUtil utility was able to create a View for the Entity in the Synapse Serverless SQL database. Or was I mistaken, is this not an available option? Cheers Ravi

Yes, the cdmutil is able to create a view for the entity, take a look to this tech-talk where they explain this part you're looking for:

Following on Mariano Gracia's answer, notice that in the folder tree for tables you get CSVs, but for Entities you only get JSON files; these JSON files will contain the Entity SQL VIEW definition from AxDB.

This happens due to how F&O exports data to the lake; it directly exports the physical tables in its database. This also means that any X++ calculated fields will not be available on the lake; either for tables or Entities (will throw an error if you're using CDMUtil to create the views in Synapse).
