i have a BOM which has 3 BOM line items, if i associate a route with the BOM, the operations will be created automatically when i estimate the production order, but if i associate the Route with a specific BOM line item, i cannot find any operation in the "Current Operations".

does it mean the route only can be associate with BOM but not BOM line item ?

thanks.

What do you mean by "if I associate a route with the BOM"?

The route (subroute) field on the BOM line is only used when the BOM line is a phantom, and it defines the phantom item’s route version which will be used to add operations to the parent item’s production order route.

There’s no actual way in AX to link a BOM to a Route. When you create a Production order the system offers you the item’s active BOM and route to be used on the production order, but you can create a production order with any combination of approved BOM version and approved Route version. I don’t know of any way to restrict the user so that for instance BOM B1 can only be used with route R1 and BOM B2 with route R2 (i.e. B1 + R2 is invalid). At least, when we hit that requirement a while ago we customised the system.

    Hi Tim,

Thanks for your comment, i have another question.

on the General tab of the BOM line, i also can specify the "Oper. No" for the BOM line item, and there is also a "End" check box, what are they used for normally ?

    thanks.

When you schedule the production order, if the BOM line operation number is blank, the BOM line material requirement is set to the start date of the production order (the start date of the first operation). If the BOM line operation number is a valid operation number on the production order route, then the BOM line material requirement is set to the start date of that operation (the deliver to operation). If you tick the End flag, the BOM line material requirement is set to the end date of that operation. Also, if you have operation numbers on the route you have the option of creating a production order picking list journal per operation, and there are some displays of the components required per operation.

    Hope this helps.
