When it's coming error "Target principle name is incorrect"

Dear All,

I got an error in SSRS report "Target principle name is incorrect" and I solved this with below steps:

Refresh client configuration

Redeploy BI services

Restart SQL Reporting services.

Can you please let me the exact reason of cause of this error? Why it's happening?

Please give me more shed on this.

    It depends when you get the error.  Are you getting it during authentication?

    Usually this indicates either a missing or incorrect SPN for the AOS or SQL Server.  An SPN is required for Kerberos authentication, but not for NTLM.  SPN's are registered when the AOS and SQL Server services start.  If either is using a domain user account, then sometimes they do not have the required permissions to create their own SPN's, and either you have to grant the permissions or register the SPN's manually.

    if face the same issue before and IT team told me "trust relation ship issue"

    The error "Target principle name is incorrect" is a somewhat generic error, like "Access denied".  You have to first figure out the context of the error, which is why I asked about authentication, in order to understand what the error means.

    It is unlikely (thought possible) that you have a domain trust issue with your server.  When that happens, usually quite a few things are broken at the same time, and you're experiencing a lot of weird behavior and getting a series of errors, not just this one.

    Check the SSRS log files for more information.  You need to determine precisely when you're getting the error.

    If, as I suspect (but cannot know for sure based on information provided so far) you have an authentication issue, the resolution will be to create SPN's for your AOS services.
