GP 2013 Set Files and Potential Bug?

Hi,

I'm wrapping up our GP 2013 installation, and preparing for the upgrade.   We are utilizing RDS for the traditional Windows client.    Because we can have multiple reporst.dic files based on our global users, I will typically as in the past set up a folder structure for managing the reports.dic files and the corresponding Set files.   In the users launch for GP, I will call that Set file, typically at a subfolder from Dynamics.exe.

Everything was working great, till I noticed that the preview pane on the lists were blank, and giving me a weird html text.   Clicking on view source shows:  <HTML><HEAD></HEAD><BODY></BODY></HTML>     One server actually shows this in the client

Now this is with a stock SET file.    If I run the set file from the same directory as dynamics.exe, everything works correctly.    Been several hours tonight trying to troubleshoot what is going on.    I can reproduce this on every server we are using for GP, regardless if it is RDS or not.

Has anyone seen this, is this really a bug?

Thanks!

Erik

    Erik,

Do you manage all of your logins using a single Dynamics.set file?  It's easier if you can. You would use the dex.ini file to indicate wich group of pathnames to use.  All of the possible path names are listed in a single .set file, and then the .ini file tells the workstation the correct group to use.  I think it's  a much better answer than having separate files.

The .set and .ini files are pretty well carved in stone that way. How do you want to have your site set up? Do you have multiple versions of the same modified form or report?

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

What is the difference between the .set files?

    Erik,

How are you calling the separate set files? Are you including the entire pathname to the different set files?

    Kind regards,

    Hi,

I'll have to dig into this in more detail on our system.   Since we are using RDS and publishing the applications, I have each user getting their own Dex.ini file.    I was planning on using the support tools to manage all the dex files if there were any changes I needed to push out.

With the Int'l entities and their special formats, historically I used unique set files to point to the reports.dic file to handle that European countries requirements.   The users would just launch the pub app for the company/country that they need to work in.

There is no difference in the set files, just where the file is stored.

On calling the set files, it will be the full path to the set file then the path to the users dex.ini file.    I've even dragged the set file over to dynamics.exe.   As I said everything works great except I get the html error for the list preview pane.

What I did track down is that the html temp file that is created in the users temp directory is written with the missing details.
