No Data on Pre-Filter Enabled Custom Report

ReportReport
Posted on by 45
Hello,

I have an issue with a report that I built with VS 2005 and uploaded to CRM. The issue is that when I build the report using the filtered views (to utilize pre-filtering) it returns no data when run through CRM.  If I have
the report access the tables directly it displays data (doesn’t allow me to
pre-filter) when run through CRM.

The report itself displays, there is just no data on it. The funny thing is
that I can run the report through SSRS and it runs fine.

I’m running this report as myself, with Windows Integrated Security
turned-on for the report.  As far as I can tell all rights should be
available.  I have System administration rights in CRM and SQL admin rights,
so I can access the records.

So to recap, I have built a report through Visual Studio 2005 that utilizes
the filtered views, I’ve successfully uploaded the report into CRM, and when
I run the report I get no data.  I’m able to point the report to the tables,
upload it to CRM, and the report returns data.  Also, I can run the filtered
views and tables versions through SQL Server Reporting Services
(http://servername/reports) and they both return data as expected.

Any help would greatly appreciated, because I can’t think of any other
phrases to search on in Google.

Thanks,
Tim

    Hi Tim,

When you use Pre-filtered views and upload  the report to CRM, CRM auto sets the filter option to last x days or similar... It would be worth verifying the default filter being applied to the report.

You can select the Report in the CRM Reports section and go in for the Edit Report Filter option to verify the settings there.

Just a thought... hope this helps!

    Hi Sam,

Thank you for your response.  In trying to figure this out I actually cleared the filter when running the report and it still didn't return anything.  I think I have it narrowed down to the filtered views (pre-filtered or not), because when I build the report off of them CRM returns no data, when I use tables directly it does.

When I run the report in SSRS it returns data no matter if the report was built against filtered views or tables, so it is just CRM that doesn't pull data from the filtered views.  I know that the filtered views take user security into account, which shouldn't be an issue with me having System Admin rights in CRM and the database.

I can build a report using the wizard within CRM (which accesses filtered views) and it works fine, but I need to build it through Visual Studio for the advance features it provides.

    Thanks again for you response,
    Tim

    Hi Tim,

I am not sure if you have cleared the filters from the right place... so just want to confirm once again... In the Reports Area --> Select your report --> In the Menu More Actions --> Edit Default filter

Can you make sure you have the filter removed from there as well?

    Hi Sam,

Thanks for the reply, but this one has been figured out.  I elevated things to Microsoft support and we fixed it this morning.

The problem was that I was using the "Custom Data Source" option in reporting services, whereas I should have used the "Shared" option and set it to use the MSCRM_DataSource within my 4.0 folder (if that makes sense to you).

The strange thing is that I could have sworn I was getting an error when I tried to run the report and a lot of what I read said to fix it you have to use the custom data source option, input the connection string, and use windows security  Oh well, everything is fine now.

    Thanks again for your replies,
    Tim
