Windows 7 versus Windows 8.1

I have an IMAC running OS X 10.7.5  I am preparing to add MDCRM using BootCamp to partition my drive.  Since I have not been a regular Windows user I am a bit confused as to which version of the Windows operating System I should acquire.  Many have said Windows 7, however, I find Microsoft is no longer selling this product.  Worrisome.  Windows 8 has been described as a disaster with 8.1 making some improvements.  Not good choices it seems.  Any recommendations?

    Hi James,

this question is connected to Dynamics CRM? (maybe you need it for the CRM Outlook Client?)

if not I suggest to post your question on another Microsoft forum like this one:

    social.technet.microsoft.com/.../home

Guido:  Thank you for responding so quickly.  I guess I'm confused.  We have a group of people who are developing a company and creating a platform. We all live in different cities and some countries.  MDCRM was recommended as a choice for a platform we could all use to manage and develop our customer base.  If this can be done then how would I get MDCRM on my computer or do I need to (Cloud Application)  Please understand my level of knowledge in this area.  I can drive a Ferrari very well but don't ask me to change the plugs :)

    Hi James,

sorry, I didn't notice the word MDCRM in your first post.

You are in the right forum.

First of all Dynamics CRM is a Web Application that can be proposed in two ways regarding the server part: OnPremise and Online.

If your company plans to implement OnPremise, means that it's necessary a server where the CRM will be installed to be available to you and your workmates, normally a server for CRM OnPremise requires a Windows Server and a SQL Server (plus other components)

If your company plans to implement Online, Microsoft will provide you an URL (like mycompany.crm.dynamics.com) where you and your workmates can open and use Dynamics CRM.

Because Dynamics CRM is a Web Application means that you need just a browser to use it, Internet Explorer/Chrome/Firefox on Windows, Safari on Mac.

So if you just need to access the CRM you don't need to install Windows.

Microsoft also provides an additional component for Outlook called CRM Outlook Client, in order to interact with Dynamics CRM within Outlook without opening the web browser first.

If you need this component you need to install Windows on your bootcamp partition or use a software like Parallels to run Windows together with your Mac.

I know that I write a lot, but you can go on ask your questions without problems.

Guido:  Thank you so much!  You really cleared it up for me.  It is so d--n hard to get answers sometime with these big companies.  It's like they don't have ANY warm bodies working for them anymore :)  Your presence and participation in this Forum is appreciated.  Thanks again....

I always prefer Windows 7 as it is more user-friendly and easier compared to the Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 is such an OS that anybody can access without any difficulties. I have used Windows 8.1 too and visited https://msofficetechnicalsupportnumbers.com/blog/windows-activation-error-0xc004f074/, and got a piece of huge information regarding these two OS. Just do visit this and you will get the difference.
