Mass Account Deactivation

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

I want to mass deactivate thousands of accounts. I read a post on this Forum by Richard L. Whaley from 7/16/13 about using the Navigation List to do it, but when I created a Navigation List of the account numbers and whether the account is active or inactive, I get no results. Can someone help with how to build the Navigation List to mass deactivate accounts?

Thanks!

Denise

    Denise,

My buddy David Musgrave explains how to do this in his blog article - blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../how-to-use-word-mail-merge-and-macros-to-import-data

Ok - that might work! I already have a list of accounts I want to inactivate in Excel. How difficult is creating a mail merged macro?

That's a problem. Unfortunately any of these tools, whether Navigation List Builder or Mass Modify, will require some level of consistency or a pattern to be able to accomplish the job. I have another suggestion: if there's anyway you can export a list of accounts to Excel, and cleanup the list to keep the ones you want to inactivate, you can certainly create a mail merged macro that you can play against the Account Maintenance window to deactivate the accounts.

    Hi Mariano,

Unfortunately, the accounts are all over, so using segments will not work... Thanks for the suggesstion, though!

    Denise,

Is there a particular criterion that would allow you to identify the thousands of accounts you want to deactivate, i.e., a specific account segment or segments? You could use the Mass Modify option, under Financial > Cards to do so. The Navigation List option mentioned by Richard (R.I.P.) in his post depends on you having SmartList Builder from eOne Solutions.
