Workflow on Two Option Field Issues

Posted on by 452

I have a workflow I would like to run that is based on the value of a Two Option Field.

The workflow works correctly already, IF the record has been saved.

How do I Force the user or workflow to save and then check the value of the Two Option Field?

I am not permitted to add any code :(

Obviously a newby question.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you both.  I learned (from your responses) that I was looking at the events wrong. I am used to working with databases so I assumed oncreate was like a database trigger and literally worked on creation.  But it actually works on save.  Turning this on made everything work just fine.  Thanks for the education!!

    Hi,

it probably depends on what you want to achieve in that workflow. If it's just updating some fields on the original entity, then you can use business rules as Neil has suggested above. If, on the other hand, it's using that original record to create some other records, you may need that original record to be saved first.. If that's the case, you probably have to stick to a workflow.. Although, I'm not sure why would you want to force the "save". Just wait till it's saved, then let the workflow do whatever is needed..

Workflows are going to be triggered when the two option field changes or if a new record is created. It sounds like you'd like it to trigger an action when the field changes rather than the record being saved.

You could consider using JavaScript but you mention that code is not an option. :(

Your other (no code) option will be a business rule with a scope of all forms or just the specific form you are working with. The business rule can then perform similar actions to the workflow. You comment you are a newby. If you haven't used business rules before then the post below might give you some pointers.
