How to create a Power App for Dynamics 365 Sales which imports data from another system.

Hi all,

we have the following scenario.

Recently we developed an interface for Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management (AX), which imports data from an cloud system via REST API. We have broad knowledge in Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management development.

Now we want to try out, if we can replace Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management with the model-driven App Dynamics 365 Sales. We have not much experience in using Dynamics 365 Sales. Is it possible to develop this type of interface/connector for Dynamics 365 Sales ?
In Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management, you would use Visual Studio and X++ Code to develop this interface.

I read that developing for model-driven apps like Dynamics 365 Sales you must build a Power App, therefore i am asking you.

I hope I could explain my current situation.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Burak,

Power App and Dynamics 365 applications, such as Dynamics 365 Sales, use the Common Data Service to store and secure data used by the applications.

Common Data Service lets you securely store and manage data that's used by business applications. Data within Common Data Service is stored within a set of entities. An entity is a set of records used to store data, similar to how a table stores data within a database.

So, if we want to build a Power App, then our data will be stored in Common Data Service. You will import data from the cloud system to CDS.

Please refer to this document to learn how to import data from the cloud to CDS: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/common-data-service/why-cds-import-export

First of all thank you very much for your response.

I want to ask you another question.

There are multiple Apps for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales in the Microsoft AppSource Store.

    appsource.microsoft.com/.../apps

What kind of apps are these ? Power Apps ?

    Hi Burak,

Strictly speaking, they're not "apps", they're actually extensions. In other words, they work by attaching to the original D365 app, without creating a new app.

At a system level, they work by importing the solution into D365.

I hope that I do not annoy you with my questions Lu Hao.

Our Knowledge about Dynamics 365 Sales is very limited, therefore we are slowly trying to understand how everything works.

So these extensions extend the D365 app with custom forms and actions ?

    How are these build/developed ?

The Microsoft documentation regarding D365 Sales Development is not helping me, for me it looks very confusing.

    Hi Burak,

    1. So these extensions extend the D365 app with custom forms and actions ?

    - Yes.

    2. How are these build/developed ?

    - You can start here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/developer/model-driven-apps/overview

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/developer/common-data-service/

    Thanks for the advice Hao.

I already started creating a custom connector to get the data from the thirdparty system.

If I remember correctly, the custom conector can't be directly used in the model driven app.

How do i get the data from my custom connector to Dynamics 365, do i have to use CDS/CDM ?
