Change of Item Model Group

Good day

Is it possible to change the costing method (item model group) of an item from Moving Average to FIFO. The items only have posted inventory transactions, but no on hand inventory.

We would prefer not to recreate the items, as we would need to keep the current item numbers. There is also  retail configuration that takes a lot of time to setup that we do not want to loose.

I encountered the below error when trying to change the Item Model Group.

Thank you!

    Hi Dawid,

I do think you included the wrong screenshot. Can you post the correct error message? How would it be possible that you do have inventory transactions, but no on hand? Did you post all on-hand to zero quantities? At least to be able to change settings, you have to close the inventory first. Test in a separate environment if you then can change the item model group on the item.

    Hello Dawid Jan,

I believe that you need to create new items unless you are doing some data manipulations.

    The following site

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamicsax-2012/appuser-itpro/about-moving-average

    says that ...

You cannot change your inventory costing method from a moving average method to a first in, first out (FIFO) method, a last in, first out (LIFO) method, or a weighted average method

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
