What is the most efficient method to upload a bunch of business cards to CRM

Our sales folks attend conferences and come back with 100s of business cards. What's the efficient way to get this contacts uploaded to CRM as accounts and contacts.

This is the current method we use and still take a long time

1. Use a scanner to scan business card to outlook. Just scanning is fast but having to review the results of OCR take a bit more time

2. At this step, the contacts are already in outlook. So we export to Excel. Rename column Company Name to "Accounts'.

This is the most time-consuming time: to link contacts to existing accounts in CRM.

If the account is already existing then manually insert the exact company name from CRM.

If the account is new, then we need to create the new account first.

Is there any way to speed up step-2? Skipping step-2 and uploading the contacts will create duplicate accounts.

I have been exploring FullContact and Zapier and only works if I am using online dynamics CRM 365.

But for big corporate in financial industry, our dynamics CRM is in-premise.

Seems you also have bigger problem with the step-2 of mapping contacts to accounts. I will try out the fuzzy logic add-in.

    Hi Roger,

You could try using a service like FullContact (https://www.fullcontact.com/) and then configuring a connection directly to CRM using Zapier (zapier.com/.../microsoft-dynamics).  There is obviously a charge for this, but it works pretty well for me.  FullContact use human transcription rather than OCR so it tends to be a lot more accurate.

Personally, I have the business cards brought in to CRM as leads before they're mapped to Accounts,  In terms of mapping the Accounts, I'm yet to find a foolproof solution to this, however one of the best ways I've managed to take the pain out of it is to export the leads to Excel, then Export all the Accounts.  I combine these two sheets into one workbook then do a fuzzy lookup between the Company Name on the Lead record against the Account Name in the list of Accounts (see www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx for the fuzzy lookup add-in).
