Sales order with Supplementary items

Hi all,

We produce gas and fill these gases into cylinders. We then sell these cylinders to customers. However, we take the cylinders back in certain periods. Because the cylinders are our fixtures. Every time we take them back, we refill them with gas and sell them. How can I keep track of these cylinders? Should I create the cylinder and the gas I produce as two separate products and can I define the cylinder as a Supplementary product and track it?

    Hi

    I would suggest -
Have one product for finished goods and one for the Cylinder ( Create this item as Batch tracked as I assume each cylinder have unique ID if not ). Also maintain the stock for cylinder
Create sales order with your finished product and system will add Cylinder item in order automatically (setup an supplementary item). Select the batch ID for cylinder during picking ( based on reservation hierarchy)
While customer return the cylinder , create a return order using the original sales order inly for cylinder item.

    Hey,

Just to be sure. Customers dont need to bring them back, i.e. you are selling the cylinders and buying them back if they are bought back, right?

If you are borrowing the cylinders, i.e. they still belong to the company and not to the customer, then you need a different approach.

    Kind regards, Adis

    Hy,
I think you need three items, cylinder (empty), gas and the finished product cylinder with gas.
So you sell cylinder incl. gas, you can produce cylinder + gas using with production order or even report as finished for each filled cylinder with the gas.
You can use return order for the empty cylinder you get back from customer.
I would not use supplementary items in this case.

    Hope thsi helps.

    Good day Ayhanalev,

I think you should create products for gas and cylinders. If you produce, I assume you're going to use production orders? If yes, than you need surely a product for gas, because gas is the finished product. The packing type for gas is a cylinder. Does the customer need to pay for a cylinder? Do you have different type of cylinders?

    Best regards,
    Laurens van der Tang
