User Permission for Administrators

Posted on by 20

Hi All,

I was wondwering how do work Administration permissions for using audience insights.

I've got 2 administrator users: first one is Administrator(Owner) and the second one is Admininistrator.

  • Administrator2 is not able to set up new data sources using Microsoft Power Query, because there is an error message "gateway not available".
  • Administrator2 is not able to modify data sources defined with Microsoft Power Query maneged by Administrator(Owner).

I was expected there is no difference between administrator permissions, am I wrong?

Thank you in advance.

From my experience, it's best practice to use a service account to set up all of the data sources.

    Hi Mrlyn2,

This is about your 2nd point. Unfortunately, you cannot share a data source with another user but you can definitely reassign to another user so, only 1 user can work on a data source at a time. You can change the ownership of a data source in the Power Apps maker portal.

Go to make.powerapps.com and select your environment. Expand "Data" in the left navigation bar and select "Dataflows". Click on "All Dataflows" as highlighted in the screenshot below and then search for the name of the user who owns the data source.

All the dataflows owned by that user will appear in the search results and you can then click on the ellipsis and select change owner as seen in the screenshot below.

I update my posts with some details and an additional question:

1st point "Administrator2 is not able to set up new data sources using Microsoft Power Query, because there is a "gateway not available" error message" --> the problem is fixed and was related to not assigning Office365 license to Administrator2

2nd point "Administrator2 is not able to modify data sources defined with Microsoft Power Query maneged by Administrator(Owner)": is there any way to share data sources created by Admin1 to Admin2 and vice versa?

    Thank you and best regards

    Hi Leah Ju

thank you for your answer. I had already consulted the link you sent me, but during my tests I've noticed what I decribed before.

Yes, both of them have administrator role. I attach a screen:

    Thank you and regards

    Hi Mrlyn2,

Both these two users(Administrator(Owner) and Admininistrator) have been assigned 'Administrator' role?
