CRM 2013 plugin on Export message?

I have registered a simple plugin against the Export message. However, I am not seeing my plugin execute. Is is set as pre-validation plugin. The plugin itself just throws an error. Since it's synchronous, it should just popup on-screen.

Ideally, I was looking to see the error popup when attempting an export. So far, nothing. I tried this on the "ExportAll" message as well.

Any thoughts?

Ultimately, I'm trying to restrict certain entity exports and not others.

Take a look at this thread it suggests all the possible ways to restrict export to excel

Additionally I am attempting to restrict by Security role combination with particular entities. Because of this, a plugin would be most efficient.

Did you find a solution why the plugin didn't fire?

Unfortunately, I did not. I ended up taking a new route for a solution.

I hope this thread isn't too old to still post to.  I'm trying to accomplish the same thing as the OP and after a bit of internet sleuthing I think I read of a way to do it from some StackOverflow.com discussions:

    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/36471302/distinguish-page-load-and-export-to-excel-in-crm-2015

    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3707922/crm-plugin-for-export-to-excel

The end of the first discussion talks about using the RetrieveMultiple message to capture when the Export to Excel function runs.  When a user runs the Export to Excel function the ParentContext of the RetrieveMultiple message is "ExportToExcel" instead of null and the message contains parameters of View, FetchXML, LayoutXML, QueryAPI, and QueryParameters.  In the second StackOverflow discussion there's a suggestion to modify the FetchXML query although in that discussion they did not know what message to use to trigger the plugin.

I'm not a plugin developer so I don't know if this actually works or how to write it, but I wanted to know if it was at least possible so I can ask our MS Dynamic's Partner if they know and can try it.

On thing I just re-read in the discussions above is this works for the Export to Excel button in the Home ribbons, but this plugin would NOT get triggered when a user runs a report and exports that to Excel.  That method does not trigger the RetrieveMultiple message.  This information is also repeated in community.dynamics.com/.../fetchxml-reports-do-not-trigger-retrievemultiple-plugins-in-crm-2011 and https://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/23ed243a-05cc-4979-adb3-6531e77f14ea/crm2011-when-was-retrievemultiple-triggered?forum=crmdevelopment.
