WMS Integration with GP 10

Good Day everyone. I kicked off a project with a WMS vendor today. The main reason that I went with these folks is the ability to grow with the business and is cloud based. We can pretty much pass any transaction up into GP that is required, but I was wondering if anyone has integrated into a WMS that isn't native with GP10? I am not dealing with shipping body parts or am not NASA and my transactions are pretty simplistic and my requirements are not big. Simple simple stuff here and I don't want to recreate the wheel...looking for suggestions with we can do for simple transaction mapping back into GP10.

Thanks!

Ian

Hi Ian, Yeah not sure about the partial invoicing, I will test and let you know.

Basically it is not a wms it is just some additions to GP that make it a little bit better.

For your Receiving, if you are not looking to have orders committed to the containers then using a Via Site in the Intransit Transfers would be an option.

Basically you pick, ship...the stock sits in your via site allocated to the transfer and when the good arrive you do a receiving transaction like you would with a PO to receive the stock in.

RE: WMS Integration with GP 10

All good answers. I'll add my two cents. A few years back we worked with a client who used WMS and had the same shipping requirement. They didn't want to invest a lot in an integration - so their solution was...when the shipping was completed in their WMS, it updated the SOP10100 table and set the Batch ID that the order was in to be, for example 'SHIPPED'. Therefore at any time, all of the orders in batch SHIPPED....were shipped :) and could be invoiced. Now this was a rough way to do things...but the client took responsibility. A better way would be to use eConnect to update SOP Headers with a new batch ID whenever the WMS populated a staging table with the Order number. Would give far greater control, is supported!!, and would allow you to create batches on the fly if they were not already created in GP etc. Bit more investment required of course, but just a better solution all round.

For the moving of stock from INTRANSIT to SITE - if your WMS can supply the info...then you should use eConnect to create Inventory Transfers. I don't think you need Receipt transactions?...you say the accounts people move the stock from the INTRANSITE  site to another site. This would just be a stock transfer transaction in GP. If you do actually need an Receipt transaction, this would be a POP Receiving's Transaction, and that could be achieved using eConnect as well.

I say eConnect...to me its the best tool. Others will pitch for Webservices or Smartconnect etc...but remember these are all built on top of eConnect anyway.

    Ian.

    Arthur,

What happens in the case where an order clips over multiple truck loads? We still need to invoice for what has shipped, however we still have product left to ship from that order.

So are you saying to use this module hand in hand with a WMS?

Receiving - Kind of. They move the product another site ID called INTRANSIT that way it shows as available to ship even though the container still might be in the middle of the ocean. Causes issues as you can well imagine. So, my transaction would take from 'INTRANSIT' and move it to my actually site ID.

Use the advanced distribution module for GP and use Fulfillment documents instead of Orders if you are not.

The CS team marks them ready to pick and the warehouse can look at a navigation list to pick, confirm pick, confirm ship. When confirmed shipped it is basically invoiced.

For you container...not sure I understand what you mean but do you used the In-Transit transfers with a via site? That is what we normally do and you essentially do a receiving transaction when you get the stock.

RE: WMS Integration with GP 10

Thank you for the replies…Please note that I have over 25 years of implementing WMS systems, but not one with GP10. I want to keep this pretty simple, yet integrated to the extent that we can without recreating the wheel or getting crazy with resources ($$).

    Shipping

Currently everything that we do in the warehouse is paper and completely manual.

Customer Service allocates the orders in GP10, ‘Fulfills’ them, prints off the pick tickets and packing slips and THEN they go to the warehouse to pick.

Once picked and shipped, the pick ticket comes back to Accounting and they manually invoice every order from the pick ticket.

I would LOVE to have a transaction from my WMS send and electronic pick ticket on what was shipped and have it batch up for invoicing. Currently, our poor accounting girl is here for pretty much 12 hours a day doing this. It’s crazy.

    Receiving

    Pretty much same deal.

We get containers in, unload them and manually fill out a report that tells accounting how much we got of each item. They in turn move the stock from an ‘INTRANSIT’ location to our site ID.

Would love to send a receipt transaction up to automagically do this.

Not rocket science and I am not asking for the world. My WMS can give me pretty much any info or data that I need to do this job.

Hopefully that kind of answers your questions.

RE: WMS Integration with GP 10

When it comes to integrating a warehouse management system with any ERP system, your business requirements are the key driver in how the integration should flow. I believe that the integration would mostly depend on the ERP for inbound data, on which further business analysis and assumptions can be considered on the WMS level.

In this essence, i would be quite interested to know your specific business requirements, so that suggestions could be far more valid.
