Allow posting from/to in Item transactions

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to lock every transaction that involves inventory during the time that physical inventory counting is being performed?

I wouldn´t want to use Allow posting to/from in the General Ledger Setup because I don´t want to paralize the rest of the organization.

Any suggestions on how to manage this?

Thank you.

RE: Allow posting from/to in Item transactions

    Hi,

If I understand your question correctly, you want the items to be locked during counting, so no sales order etc for these items can be made?

You can use the parameter "Lock items during count" for this: Inventory and Warehousemanagement Parameters > General > Lock items during count.

If you now create a counting journal and you add item X, this item is locked during count. You are still able to perform transactions (sales orders etc) for all other items. If you go to Released products > Manage inventory > Warehouse Items, you will see that the "empty" warehouse item line will have the box "Counting Started" checked.

If you want item X only to be locked in specific warehouses AA and CC, but not BB:

Go to Released products -> Manage Inventory > Warehouse Items. Add a warehouseitem to item X for each warehouse, so add warehouseitem AA, BB and CC. If you now create a counting journal, add item X via Lines > Create > On Hand and use the query to count only warehouse AA and CC, you will see in the warehouse items that only item X in warehouses AA and CC are locked for counting, but not item x in warehouse BB.

Hello everyone, thank you for your answers.

The requirement is to not allow changes in inventory until I have finished physical inventory counting. I would be performing this counting every 5 days...

I was suggested to use Inventory Periods but I'm not sure how they work. The closing process is confusing.

Something like this is not exist in NAV by default. You can use only allowing posting in user setup as Suresh said. But, you can make some customization for your requirement. You can make some control by each location.

I am not aware of anything other than GL Setup, what i was suggesting is if you don't want to do @ General ledger Setup for everyone you can use the same setup at Individual user level.  We have inventory periods but i have no knowledge if that can be used to stop the transactions.

If you use the Allow Posting from, you are locking the transactions, so please let us know how is your requirement different from that and the reason for not to use that existing functionality.

    Hi Suresh,

So you are telling me that I can´t just lock the inventory module? I know that GP allows to do something similar.

You can also set the Allow Posting From and To by user in the user setup window

    In other words,

How can I prevent Inventory Posting during cycle counting?
