Filtering products by price list or another field in opportunity, quote, or order

Hello,

I am using CRM Online 2016.  I am curious on what the best way to filter product input based on vendor in the aforementioned scenarios would be?  My end result would be as such:

  1. Create new quote
  2. Enter price list / vendor / product family into a required field.
  3. Save the quote and then add a new product, however, only allow/show the product for the particular vendor selected as part of a separate field or price list?

At first I thought I would add a vendor lookup field, force the user to select a vendor before they could continue, and then have the product list only allow the addition of products based upon the vendor selected.  However, I do not know how that would work - so I come to the forums for help.  I hope my description adequately describes the what I'm looking for, but I'm happy to clarify additional details if necessary.

Thank you in advance!

Phil

    Hi Phil,

    You could do as below:

Filter the Product list if Vendor is selected,

and if the Vendor is not selected, to show an empty Product List using addPreSearch - addCustomFilter functions.

To show an empty list, you would need to add such a condition in the fetchXml, which is going to result false for every Product record,
Say - records where Product Primary Field is Empty.

    Thanks,
    Sahana

    Hello Sahana,

Is this functionality available in Dynamics CRM Online?  If so, where would be a good starting place to find it?  I'm not a programmer, but I can figure out the GUI through trial and error.

    Thank you,

    Phil

Yes it is applicable online too,

Please use this as a reference:

You could use your target field in the place of the "Regarding" variable used and int the plist_filter you need to add your fetchXml filter.

    Hi Phil

You can use a filtered lookup on Product based on the vendor, Go into your lookup and set the value to show Opportunity(Vendor) and it will filter for you

FYI - right now my vendor "Lookup" merely looks for any account, not just vendor accounts because I don't know how to make it specify just search for vendor.

I'm not sure what you mean by go into your lookup?  I'm using the default quote/order forms.  I can't find how to edit the lookup unfortunately.  I'm sure I've missed it (that customization screen is massive and complicated), but if you could point me in the right direction, that would be great.
