How to export attached PDF-file?

Hi Dynamics Community,

I need to export PDF-files that are attached to objects created by a third party solution provider. They are stored in Document Management for their tables. They have not created a DMF entity for these attachments.

There is an attachment export in D365 Finance and Operations, however it only exports attachments to attachments in the export table. So I don't see much point of this solution. There is a DMF entity for this attachment export, however it only exports the settings of the export, not the attachments. As far as I could see.

I have found there is an ability to export attachments using Electronic Reporting. They then become embedded in the created XML-format. I have not experimented with other export formats.

So, has anyone had a similar issue? Any suggestions on how to move forward with this? It seems to me as the currently easiest solution may be to reuse the functionality I found for exporting notes using Electronic Reporting and create a new report for this type of attachment. Or for any type of attachment, preferably. Maybe there already is an ER report for export of attachments, but I couldn't find one.

    Hi @Dan P,

I would like to refer you to the following link https://anithasantosh.wordpress.com/2024/08/20/export-and-download-attachment-d365fo-document-management/ written by Anitha Eswaran, which may help you extract attachments from D365 F&SCM with the assistance of your technical consultant.

Thanks for the suggestion! I found that blog post and looked into it before posting here. Her suggestion, as I remember, is to use the DMF entities. And as I wrote, "They have not created a DMF entity for these attachments.". So that is sadly not an alternative.

I managed to create an ER report for exporting attached files today, so that was in the end the easiest export approach I could find.
