CRM Contacts ---> Outlook

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

A client updated a Contact in CRM.  It apparently created a new Contact in Outlook for him.

Now he's thinking that is why they have so many Duplicated Contacts in Outlook.

I am aware of synchronized fields settings in Outlook, but not how to prevent creation of CRM Contacts. In other words: it is possible to set Outlook to NOT create a new contact when an CRM contact is being updated?

    I would expect that this would be a problem where the contact was "unlinked" at some point.  If you verify the steps and get it synched then delete the old one you should be fine.

    Thanks,

    Thanks Drew.  So this is an Exchange issue, or a CRM email configuration settings issue?

    Hi W Bradley,

    If you are synchronizing contacts between CRM and Outlook then this would not create the duplicates in this situation unless the contact in their Exchange environment was not synched with CRM as they thought it was.  They might think it is but if it created a new contact in Exchange (Outlook) then it was not synched.  A good test is to update the contact again and see if the new one that was created gets "updated" in Exchange with the changes or if it does not update the record and creates a new one.

    Thanks,
