Organization hierarchy designer box lengths

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

All,

We have some long names for departments and cost centres that are very similar sounding.  Is there a way to extend the box sizes in the viewer?  Also it would help if we could use the 'codes' rather than the descriptions of the departments etc, or ideally both somehow.

Also we would like to publish the viewer to a wider audience than the regular AX users, can it be viewed in the EP, or data accessed via excel services somehow?

Main purpose is to recreate the entity structures used for validation purposes which we cannot access or publish in any way.

thanks

    Hello Axfinance,

To my knowledge the size of the boxes cannot directly be modified in the AX client but need a development. However, before making such a development, can't you simply add the number of the organizational unit in front of the name e.g. 024-AdminDepartment, 025-ITDepartment, etc.

    About the second question:

The organizational hierarchies are automatically created as Management Reporting trees. Can you design a MR reporter report and publish it e.g. on a SharePoint site that these people can access. If you do not want them to see any financial data you could simply create e.g. rows or columns with fixed values such as 1, 2, etc. but allow them to see the hierarchies. They can then also export them to excel without making a system modification. It is not the simplest and most elegant way doing that but I believe an acceptable workaround that does not require an adjustment.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

thanks Ludwig, Management reporter is certainly something to explore, I can see the hierarchy in the reporting tree but not sure how to use it to get something I can report on, how do I show the hierarchy as the report itself?

    thanks

    Hello AXF,

Here are some screenprints from 'MR' in D365FO. Things are slightly different in AX2012 but the outcome should be identical.

Step 1: Run the report with a hierarchy/tree

In the report you can filter by the tree elements. In my example companies but these can also be departments, cost centers, etc.

Step 2: Export the report to Excel

Now you get separate worksheets with the Financial, Accounting and Transactional Data for the different reporting tree elements.

This is what the MR can do for you.

Is that sufficient for your requirements?

    Best regards,

    Hi Ludwig,

thanks for your help, but it's actually the reporting tree/organizational hierarchy itself I want to publish as a reference, so people understand which department belongs to which cost centre etc as it's very complex, rather than the financial transactions ( we have that sorted).

    regards

    Hi AXF,

In this case you might have to do some development of a specific form or report.

I am not aware of a standard report that includes the details you are looking for.

The one you can use possibly as a starting point for development is the departments report available in the organization admin module.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Thanks Ludwig I will have a look at that report as a starting point,
