Fixed Assets structure (Main asset contains sub assets issue)

Hello everyone ,

I have one doubt ,that's related to the fixed assets structure , how we can use it in the depreciation and disposal or it's for reporting only ?

my scenario is that , if i have main asset which is scaffolding and i'm purchasing sub items to build up this scaffolding ,my question is how i can use the default functionality in ax to purchase the component and finally i will assemble the asset , and how i can assign this asset to several projects to work partially and i need to post the depreciation based on the usage of each project .

    Hi ahmed.kimo,

I assume that you refer to the fixed asset structure tab and the main fixed asset link available in the standard application.

That is indeed only used for reporting purposes.

To get your scenario included in AX you can for example record a fixed asset acquisition and then continue to post subsequent acquisitions to this fixed asset in order to build it up.

Another option would be to purchase the items first into your inventory and then to assemble them. The finished product can then be transferred to the fixed asset module via the inventory to fixed asset Journal.

    Hope this helps

    Dear Ludwig Reinhard ,

Thank you for your reply, can you please explain me which functionality i have to use for positing subsequent acquisitions,

another inquiry , how i can assign this asset in one project to allocate the depreciation cost on this particular project.

    Hi ahmed.kimo,

There are many ways how you can post subsequent acquisitions.

If you make use of purchase orders, you can continue posting transactions on a fixed asset simply by selecting the fixed asset in the fixed asset line tab.

If you make use of the project module, you would have to reverse the elimination, record then additional costs to your project and then run the estimate and elimination process again.

The second part of your question is not directly possible. There is, however a workaround which would require that you post an additional transaction for example in a GL journal that debits your project and credits your depreciation account that is used when you run the depreciation for your fixed asset.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig Reinhard,

    Hi ahmed.kimo,

    Can you elaborate on that?

So, you have a fixed asset and want to split it into two?

    Is that right?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig Reinhard,

i know that there is split functionality to another asset . but my question is that , if you have  one asset with quantity 10 how you will split this quantity to 5 assigned or moved in one location and the remaining 5 still in the original location.

    Hi,

This is not possible this way. You can make use of the split feature but can't split on the quantity as you want. This would require a system modification.

    Best regards

    Hi Ludwig Reinhard,

Can you explain more how to create Fixed asset structure (Sub fixed asset) on Fixed asset master data (tab Structure) as you said. Do I need to setup anything?

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

    SuongATA

    Hi SuongATA,

You do not need to setup something specific to make use of the fixed asset structure functionality except different fixed assets that you can incorporate into this structure.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
