year end close of subledger in GP

I have 2 years open (2016 & 2017) in Microsft GP, but only want to close 2016 subledger.  What year will GP close when we choose close year?

    Closing a subledger will close at the time you hit the close button. The subledgers do not work like the general ledger. I can provide more information if you would say which subledger you wanted to close? What does closing a subledger mean to you?
