Directed Pick and Put away

One of my client has the following requirements:

1. They do not want system to suggest the location in the pick and putaway work.

2. They want to be able to enter the pick quantity and scan the location and proceed with the pick.

Note; They can pick from multiple locations.

3. Scan the put location on the device and put away the items. I think this is possible.

Please let me know how to get this to work or is it even possible in the new WMS solution.

    Hi,

Have you tried warehouse transfer menu item? I think that should work, in this case you have to use From location also.

I agree with the previous author - if they are doing everything manually, they might as well be using a regular inventory movement (Warehouse transfer specifically is prob not the right choice here)

Thank you for the response guys. I Understand the solution but the business problem here is that the inventory is all over the place and they want users to decide where to pick from. I understand that this is not typical warehouse practice but clients do not want to change sometime.

    1. I turned off the location directives to see if that works.

    2. I had 400 quantity of an item in stock. Location1 -100 and location2-100 and bulk-200

    3. When I released the sales work for 200 qty. It is splitting work into two lines of 100 without a location. The problem here is the split is based on FIFO I suppose but that might not always work. They might just go pick 200 from the Bulk or find 200 at another place and adjust it.

    4. Can we just get it to create one line without reserving based on location.

    5. And let the users chose the location to pick from where it is in stock.

I totally understand that this is not an ideal business process.

Are you sure about that? I think it will split based on some config. Was the 200 on one sales order line? Have you got anything on your Work template which might cause it to split?

What's your stock item licence plate quantity?

There is nothing on the work template that I can think off. Is there any parameter?

I think it is splitting based on locations. I have tried this by increasing and decreasing stock.

It is a single Sales order line with 200.

We have turned of license plate for picking locations.

If the location directives have failed, it shouldn't know anything about the inventory in your locations.

Here, I have inventory of 63 units across 6 locations:

    5008.work.jpg

I create a single line sales order for 63 units, and reserve the full quantity to the order. I have configured the 'Pick' location directive to fail, and I have used 'Location directive failures' to allow the work to be created even if this happens. My work template is only creating a Pick and a Put, and is not splitting the work. When I release the order to the warehouse, I get one instance of work for the full quantity, and it does not tell me where to get the inventory from:

    5008.work.jpg

Some reasons I can think of that might cause the work to break:

    • You have something configured on the 'General' tab of the Work template (set all this to zero or <blank>)
    • You have a 'Work break' in the Work template
    • You have Batch or Serial enabled, and the inventory has different batch or serial numbers.

Thanks Guy I could get this to work till stage. Can you try to complete the pick work above.

When I scan the work id.

It asks me to scan a location. I scan a location that has a partial inventory but it throws an error "Unable to reserve inventory for work". Looks like it is trying to pick entire quantity from that location.

You're right; I get the same error and came to the same conclusion as you. I don't know what to suggest here; whether this is a scenario that WHS supports.
