GP 2010 Server and SQL Database Server Domain Change

(0) ShareShare

We currently have an implementation of GP 2010 running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 for Management Reporter and Shared Files. The GP Databases are on another Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL 2008 R2. Both the GP 2010 Server and SQL Servers exist in an AD and we need to join those servers to a New AD.

Question 1: Does GP 2010 only use SQL Logins to access the databases and what affect of changing the SQL server to a different domain will there be? I've noticed all the installations we have in our environment has a Dynamics GP 2010 DSN except the latest install of the client and it logs in without a DSN...leading me to this question if ODBC is the only connection from a client.

Question 2: Reviewing the server with Management Reporter service and shared files the only thing I'm seeing is the security on shared files. How is the Management Reporter accessing the databases and what do I need to be aware when changing this servers domain membership?

Thanks,
Eddie

The majority of this has been figured out. There is one question left in it and that is:

After changing the domain membership of the Management Reporter and SQL servers now can we insure the Management Reporter's new domain/machine account gets properly added to the SQL server logins?

Is there any documentation or outline to follow for repairing Management Reporter services, etc. after the domain memembership of its server is changed?

    Thanks,

    Eddie

    Hi Eddie

Assumption is that you are not using the new Management Reporter 2012 version and so you will have an application pool for the Management Reporter Service.  This Application pool I believe is being used to access the database whilst the Windows service is used to accept connections from clients (maybe the other way arround).  The login on the application pool needs to have access to the ManagementReporter database with database Role of General User.

There is a Techknowledge article on Partner and customer source about moving ManagementReporter from one server to another which may have other pointers for you

    kind regards
