Import Items from Business Central to Shopify with multiple variants

Posted on by 35

Hi,

Question 1

I am trying to imports items from Business Central to Shopify using Shopify Connector.

It works well with individual items but when you want to import an item with variants then the following issue arises.

Product in Business Central

Title: Test Product

Variants:

Code               Description

Red                 Red

Small               Small

Large               Large

When I import it in Shopify using Process->Add Items

Then it creates variants under a single type of variant

Product in Shopify

Title: Test Product

Variants

Red Small Large

How can I separate Color & Size in Business central so that it works fine on Shopify as well?

Question 2

My main problem that I am trying to solve is that I have a lot of individual items in Business Central

e.g.

Red Chair, Blue Chair, and Yellow Chair are three different products.

I want a way using Shopify Connector App so that I could import those three products as Variations, how can I do that?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,
Harpreet Singh

RE: Import Items from Business Central to Shopify with multiple variants

I have found a workaround to have multiple variables for a product.

For example if you have following single/Individual products

    1. Red Chair Size 120  (SKU: 0001)
    2. Blue Chair Size 130 (SKU: 0002)
    3. Red Chair Size 130 (SKU: 0003)
    4. Blue Chair Size 120 (SKU: 0004)

Now you can create a single Product  "The Chair" (SKU: GROUP-0001)

    Sync the GROUP-0001 to Shopify.

Open Product in Shopify and Add variants.

    Color: Red , Blue

    Size: 120, 130

Note: At this stage your remove product should be set to Archived/Draft in shop settings (Business Central)

Now Remove Group-0001 from Business Central Shopify connector and Add it again then it will have all of the variants in it (The status won't change but that doesn't affect)

Now you can Map variants in Shopify Connector: Click on the Product and then click on the variant and from options map 0001, 0002, 0003,  and 0004 to appropriate variant.

After mapping you can also sync inventory and prices and it will change automatically in Shopify

To make this process faster you can use Shopify's CSV import to add options but mapping has to done manually.

Drawback : If you delete product and add again you have to do the mapping again as well.

    hope it is helpful.

    Thanks Zhu,

I figured out that at this moment we can only have one type of variant, we are waiting for the extendable version.

Hi, If you need it as a separate item on Shopify, you should also add it as a separate item in BC and should not use the Variant feature. And vice versa.

Or you can try to customize, in the next version BC22 Shopify connector becomes extensible:

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.
