unable to login from a different PC

Once my users login G/P on a PC they can login to G/P from a PC on that subnet without any problems, but if they go to another PC with the G/P client on it on a different subnet and try to log in they cannot until I reset their password. The PCs are on two different subnets but are on the same VLan.   After I do that they are able to login until they go back to the original PC when I have to reset thier password again to allow them to login.

I'm new to G/P so any ideas and help would be appreciated.

I worked with a company that had multiple subnets and they experienced issues, too. My recollection is we used a host file to force the connection to the SQL Server.

Thanks I will check the settings.  I was not the only one setting the clients up but I thought I had the other tech use the TCP/IP address for the ODBC connection.

I'll report back on what I found.

Re: unable to login from a different PC

    David,

This behavior results from inconsistencies in the ODBC setup on the different PCs.  To ensure consistency, make sure the server name in the ODBC on every machine matches the actual GP server name EXACTLY.  The reason you get this is because GP uses the server name in the ODBC settings as part of the encrypted password for that user.  That's why they can login on one machine and not the other.  The server names in the ODBC are not the same between the two machines.

    Hope this helps,
