In D365 F&O, I'm trying to specify string size more than 1260 for an EDT extension, but it seems to auto filled with (memo). The size that can be entered seem to be max at 1000. Is this Microsoft behavior or how should I extend EDT in this scenario ? I do not want a new EDT because the standard is using in many areas which I hope not to change.
HI SLC,
Yes, when you enter a value greater than 1000, it will be displayed as memo, which is consistent.
Memo length is practically unlimited because it is stored in the database as a BLOB (Binary Large Object). It is not the same a normal string field which has a fixed length in the database.
For an explanation of Memo, see this: community.dynamics.com/.../what-is-string-size-of-memo
Yes, but is there a way to achieve this ?
I would prefer a fixed size, just like the standard EDT Str1260, if I extend it I will get the size of 1260, but not when I create a new EDT and enter the size manually.
Hi SLC,
I think you cannot set it.
Even if you extend str1260, when you modify the value, it will become memo.
Hi SLC,
What is the exact business scenario here? Which field should have a maximum of 1260 characters and why? Would a new field (with new EDT) on the table also solve your requirement?
