Hello all,
I have a question about the functionality of POS working offline. They have both been setup with an offline database, and have been installed with the offline installer.
As a test, we have launched the POS software whilst the device is online, logged in and working ok. Removed the network cable and it's continued to work fine as it's switched in to Offline Mode.
I have then powered off the device, removed the network cable and powered the device back on, launched POS but this fails to load as the device is offline.
Is this the expected outcome, as I was expecting if the device is completely disconnected from both the local and wide networks, then it would switch in to Offline Mode, even if it's the first time it's been powered on for the day.
I look forward to any feedback.
Hi,
Thanks for the response - we have performed further testing and when we go back to the copy released by Microsoft without any customisations / modifications, then all is working ok. We are looking at this separately now.
Thanks
Do you by any chance have different versions of MPOS and Retail Server? What version of RS and MPOS are you using?
If they are different - there was a bug which resulted in failing attempts going offline, the fix was the binary one which means you could apply any other Binary Hotfix and you will unconditionally get all other binary hotfixes including that one. This is an example of hotfix download for 7.3: fix.lcs.dynamics.com/.../Details
To update: A full sync has been broadcast down to the devices for the offline database, but on checking back with this today, the same issue is in existence.
May have been able to resolve with a full sync on the offline database for the register / device. Can I ask however, do you know if there is a timeframe where if a device has been offline for more than let's say 7 days, or whatever the setting may be, it'll then no longer work offline as we may have in the future cases where a device could remain offline for up to 30 days before it's reconnected back on to the network.
Hi
I have been in to the Windows services and set all to Automatic for SQL, although they were running, some were set to manual.
On restarting the device, it continues to work if it goes offline with POS already launched, but if POS isn't launched then it fails to open if offline with the only error as stated above being the one displayed. Pressing OK on this error simply makes the error disappear but the wheel continues to spin forever with no time out.
It does therefore feel that the Offline DB is functional based on the above.
My knowledge within SQL to run a trace isn't something that I have necessarily performed before, what would you expect to come up from this?
Thanks
This is a very generic error. Are you able to see any other error ?
I hope the SQL service is set to automatic start and database instance is accessible for the app.
I would recommend you turn on SQL tracer on the offline DB. Try to switch the DB to offline and see if you are seeing activities from Modern on the database. If yes, check what is the last query executed and what is the result.
logs preview.
Thanks for the response, details below as requested.
Error when loading POS if no network connection:
"The application has encountered an error. Try again....."
This is not the expected outcome. You should be able to login and perform transaction. What error message do you get ?? Can you share the event view logs here ?
Please refer below link to see the list operations that can and cannot be completed when you are working in offline mode.
