Can't install web services for Dynamics GP 2010

Posted on by 130

I've completed an initial installation of GP 2010 on a 4 GB VM with SS08 R2 installed. As recommended in the only blog that I could find on the problem, I uninstalled web services and confirmed that the db_verMajor in the databases was 11.0.

Now I'm trying to install web services and I'm having a problem.

I'm logged in as a domain administrator who has ALL roles in the DYNAMICS and TWO databases including DYNGRP assigned. This domain administrator also has ALL roles in the master System Database assigned to it.

While installing, I selected "SQL Server (recommended)" as the Dynamics Security Data Store and specified "DYNAMICS" as the database name where the security data will be installed. When I click next, I get a message that a security store will be created during installation. On the next screen I input the same domain account and password that I'm logged in as. When I click Next, I continue to get a Message Box titled "Invalid Credentials" which contains the ambiguous message "Address the following error(s) ... The credentials are invalid"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Glad to know your problem got resolved. But I dont agree with Steve that Dynamics GP WebService creating Database for Security, it create all required tables and storeProcedure in Dynamics or in Company Database.

I'll try to clarify. It's true that Web Services creates tables and stored procs in the Dynamics and Company databases, just as it always did. What I'm describing is an additional database that is created when you choose to store security information in SQL Server. The tables in this security database are created by Authorization Manager.

In Web Services for versions 9 and 10, the security data for web services was always stored in either an ADAM database (Server 2003) or an ADLDS database (Server 2008). Beginning with GP 2010, this security data for web services can be stored by SQL Server -- in a separate database that can be created during the Web Service installation.

     Hope that clears things up.

Thanks guys, I've resolved the problem.

The issue was with IIS7. I didn't have access rights for my user (SS08R2ADMIN) in C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv and its subdirectories (Config\Schema). Once I granted them, the installation went smoothly.

When you choose SQL Server as the location for the security metadata, the installer will create a new SQL database that stores the data. Because it's storing security data for Dynamics GP Web Services, I choose to name it "DynGPSecurity" so I remember what its for.

I'll assume you're following the installation instructions, which I'll refer to here. If I understand correctly, your issue is on step 9 (page 22) of the installation procedure.

You're entering the credentials for a domain user (you). I think the warning in step 9 might be the issue. Since you've already added yourself as a user to SQL Server, you need to be sure that the case you used there matches the case you use when you supply the Domain/UserName/Password for the web service installer.

Look in SQL Server Management Studio to see the casing for your login. Match that case exactly when you're completing step 9, and see if that helps.

Re: Re: Re: Can't install web services for Dynamics GP 2010

    Okay,

    If I understand correctly :

Create Domain user with Admin rights in your Acitive Directory, Add that user in SQL Server. Goto SQL User Property --->IN User Mapping--> Map to Dynamics and "Company" database and in Role select "Dyngrp" & Public".

Install your webSerivce again and you get same error msg again ?

Now step 1 remove completely Dynamics GP WebService , follow this blog : http://sandipdjadhav.blogspot.com/2010/01/remove-dynamics-gp-web-service.html

     2 . http://sandipdjadhav.blogspot.com/2010/01/dynamics-gp-web-service-installation.html

In second option it will create log file if it failed.

    Let us how it goes.

    Thanks

    Sandip

    Thanks Steve,

I tried using "DynGPSecurity" for the new database but unfortunately still received the invalid credentials message box. Could it be something with IIS 7.0?

You can't use DYNAMICS as the database for the security store. That's because the database owner for the DYNAMICS database isn't a Windows user. You need to supply the name for a new database that will be created. I use the name "DynGPSecurity" when I install web services.

     Hope this helps.

Re: Re: Can't install web services for Dynamics GP 2010

Thanks for the quick response Sandip. Here's more detail on the installation:

Dynamics GP 2010 and SS08R2 are both installed on the same VM (SVR3-V1) running Windows Server 2008 R2, Enterprise Edition. This VM (SVR3-V1) is a member of the DEVELOPMENT.COM domain and I am logged into this server as DEVELOPMENT\SS08R2ADMIN.

The SS08R2ADMIN Active Directory group memberships are Administrators, Domain Users and IIS_WPG. In addition, I'm using Windows Authentication to login to SS08R2 with SS08R2ADMIN.

In SS08R2, SS08R2ADMIN is set up as follows:

Master db: All schemas except guest. All roles.

DYNAMICS: All schemas except guest. All roles including DYNGRP, DYNWORKFLOWGRP and RAPIDGRP.

TWO: All schemas except guest. All roles including DYNGRP, DYNWORKFLOWGRP and RAPIDGRP. In GP, SS08R2ADMIN is a POWERUSER with user access to Fabrikam, Inc. Note that I installed GP when logged in as SS08R2ADMIN.

I also tried unsuccessfully to store the security information in Active Directory after creating an Active Directory Partition.

In all cases, no matter if I use SS08R2ADMIN, sa or DYNSA as the Application User Account, I contine to get the message box with "Address the following error(s) … The credentials are invalid".
