Custom Screen Error

Alright...SL 2011 FP1 running from remote desktop, Server 2008 R2.

We just recently upgraded from SL 6.5 and everything went pretty smothly. Had some issues with some custom reports, but managed to get those figured out and some screen customizations (adding user fields) needed to be realigned because of new fields added to the screens, but relatively painless. Tested all of the screen customizations and they all seemed to work.

We had one that was required some Visual Studio work, but that also seemed to work, at least as SYSADMIN logged into the server as administrator, or as chris.mccoy logged onto the server. chris.mccoy is the the SL administrators group.

Essentially, what the customization did was allow us to attach files and store them in a custom table in the SQL db. We applied this customization to both Inventory Items and BOM Maintenance. There is a button to attach a file and a button to view the attachment.

The buttons both work on the BOM screen for everyone. They only work on the Inventory screen for people in the SL adminsitrators group within SL. When a regular user pressed the buttons he/she recieves message 9835, an error has occured in the VBA customization (.

I know SL has file attachments as an option now, however, I am not in a positon to turn it on yet as I need to create my Share Point Enviornment first. Kind of at a loss as to why one of them is working and the other is not. Any ideas would be appreciated. I can attach the code of the functioning and non-functioing customizations if it would help get an answer, I looked at it yesterday for a while and cannot see why one should work but not the other.

    Hi Chris,

This is an strange issue.  Here are some things you can check on:

1 – for a user with the error, browse out to the C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Dynamics SL\   folder and delete the APC folder.   Then login to SL and try again

2 – Try going into “all users” customization level and try again.   Maybe the user with the error has some other self level customization that is causing a problem.

3 - May also want to look to see if there are any other “group” level customizations on that screen that could maybe be causing the error.

If both screen customizations are doing basically the same thing, then I wouldn’t think it was some missing component or DLL or whatever that the non-admin users didn’t have.

Let me know what you find.

    Carolyn,

I tried 1-3 and no joy...so I was puzzling over it and decided to re-import the customization, and for whatever reason it decided to work again. So I guess alls well that ends well.

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Okay...so I was wrong...but I learned something.

When I re-imported the customization, I forgot to open the VB editor and update the DB location. A user went to attach a file to a brand new part number, and it blew up again, because the inventory id was not in the old DB.

So, it is definately a DB issue I think.
