GP and Eset AV

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Does anyone else use Eset's NOD32 anti virus program with Dynamics GP?  We're having problems when we try and post or when we try and email invoices.  The CPU on the workstation will spike to 100% use by the eset AV process.  If we temporarily turn off Nod32, the problem stops.  I have excluded the GP directory as well as excluded the Microsoft recommended directories and files, but the problem remains.  Does anyone have any ideas?

set up a test company in GP and back up its data. Open it and start recording a macro...enter lots of invoices and save them to a batch. Stop record.

Now you have a macro that enters a batch. You can post the batch...and resore the data and run the macro again.

One way of getting over the issue of having to post batches so they can test. They should be able to test over and over again in the same day...only delay is you restoring the data and running the macro.

I was on the phone with eset support this morning and they were trying the things you suggested.  However, they want something that we can do over and over like 5 times so they can test, which I can understand, but most of our problems happen during posting and emailing invoices, and it's hard to have 5 batches to run every morning.

    Yeah...don't know eithre.

Have you looked for any NOD communities on the web? Maybe here is not the best place to get answers. But keep posting about this anyway.

Are you including any shares in the virus scan? If so, exclude them...ie just have folders/ files that are on your PC...see if this helps.

You could start with everything excluded and run the scan. Then include the first 20 directories, if this runs fine...then the next 20, and so on untill it causes issues...this will narrow things down, maybe give you something to go on. I'm just grasping at straws here!!

Right, excluded from scanning.  I've excluded the whole GP directory.

I checked the log and the only thing in there are a couple of 1002's when the program locks up.

I talked to acct and they said that only the one computer has those problems..the only difference between it and the others is that it's the newest one and has an SSD for a hard drive, but I don't see how that would matter.

Do you mean a list of files that should be excluded from the NOD AV process?

I don't have such a list anyway, but depending on your AV strategy, you could probably include all files in your GP root directory.

Contact NOD about the issues you are having...and certainly if you find any error messages in the event log, send them to them. I know of a lot of people who rolled back versions of NOD after upgrading, simply because they got issues like you. Again, not GP related I would bet.

OS is Vista..yes, other workstations do have the same problem and are running the same OS.

It's NOD32 4.0.467.0...I'll have to check the event logs now, thanks for the suggestion.

Do you have a list of files/directories that should be excluded for GP?

Our dynamics.set file does point to a reports dictionary that is on the server.

We're running GP 10 SP4 and use crystal to do many of our things..out programmers have also written some custom code.

By th way, what software do you use to generate your sales invoices for emails etc. Looking at a few options at the moment..and looking for recommendations. Whate version GP are you on...are you producing PDF's of invoices / statements / Purchase / Sales orders etc.

Thanks in advance for any opinions of what systems are best with GP etc.

    Ian.

Hi, it might not be GP that is causing the issue. Have you checked your event viewer?  If you are getting lots of 6004 event messages in there, then this is a known problem amongst the NOD user base.

What OS are you running? Is it happening on other workstations...are they the same OS as this one?

    What version of NOD32?

Is your set file pointing to any shared folders on your server? Try using a set file that points locally for all dictionaries.

Have a look at this thread about performance issues on workstations running NOD http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=198897&page=8
