How to disable opening associated records in a modal/dialog form?

Ever since the last Release Wave update we have noticed that in several entities, opening a record of a subgrid opens it up in a modal version of the form. I know that this is supposed to be a new feature but can we somehow disable it for certain entities? We want to open the records in a full form depending on the situation.

Could you provide a screenshot of modal version of the form so that we can understand your problem better.
