Move GP SQL to new Server Scripts

Posted on by 1,599

I was looking at the latest version of the MS article that discusses how to move Dynamics GP to a new server.  In the past the article would reference three scripts.  A dex script, a grant script, and the change dbowner script.

in this latest version I do not see the dex script.  I only see the grant and change dbowner script.  Is the dex script no longer required?  Please advise.

RE: Move GP SQL to new Server Scripts

For the Dynamics GP databases, moving them from one server to another, you'll want to use the steps and scripts mentioned in these articles:

KB 878449 - How to transfer an existing Microsoft Dynamics GP, Microsoft Small Business Financials, or Microsoft Small Business Manager installation to a new server that is running Microsoft SQL Server

    support.microsoft.com/.../how-to-transfer-an-existing-microsoft-dynamics-gp-microsoft-small-busi

**NOTE: The CaptureLogins script in step #1 of KB 878449 hasn’t been updated to work with newer releases of SQL Server, so, if you're using SQL 2017 or newer, you'll need to use this article to migrate the login information for GP users over to the new SQL Server:

KB 918992 - How to transfer logins and passwords between instances of SQL Server

            support.microsoft.com/.../how-to-transfer-logins-and-passwords-between-instances-of-sql-server

The KB 878449 article describes how to transfer an existing Microsoft Dynamics GP installation to a new server that is running Microsoft SQL Server. The article also describes how to maintain the user logins and databases.
