GP2010 R2 upgrade

Posted on by 4,029 Super User 2024 Season 2

I'm trying to upgrade my desktop GP2010 instance to GP2010 R2.  I downloaded SP2 for 2010, and ran the installer.  The installer seemed to me to to complete very quickly and when I run Utilities to upgrade the databases, the version verification indicates that no upgrade is required and leaves my 2010 version at 11.00.1053.

Has anyone else experienced this and found a resolution?

Thanks,

    Re: GP2010 R2 upgrade

    Hi Frank,

What's the KB # of your SP2 file ? mine is named MicrosoftDynamicsGP11-KB2435566-ENU.msi from the Updates folder in the GP2010R2 installation package (downloaded from the customer source). This worked perfectly on the server and client side. My current version is 11.00.1752.

However, I was surprised when doing the upgrade that the GP2010 client could not be installed over the existing GP10SP5 folder and I had to select a new folder. This is a little bit annoying since I have plenty of 3rd party products and Forecaster/FRx that I need to migrate manually and change all the path definitions...

One thing that I found out that in one of the RepXXX.txt files that are used as input, for one module there was one upgrade path missing (i.e. ['11.0.1053' to '11.0.1247'] ### Do nothing here.  Just needs to be in here.). I added manually the section by copying it from another one and the upgrade worked just fine (I think that was during the process of upgrading the modified forms & reports).

Hope this helps and good luck,

    Beat

10.00.1061 is GP 10 SP2 so you must be at some hot fix level just before that. I had a workstation behave like this. Even though I had applied a service pack it thought it was still at the version off the DVD. Make sure you are logged as someone with full admin rights. You may also want to completely unstall GP 10 and GP 2010 and completely do a fresh install of GP 2010 and try the upgrade. Unistalling will not affect the databases so they will be fine. Just make sure you backup everything before you start just to be on the safe side. If you really want to be adventurous try moving all the databases to another server and try the upgrade over there.

It may be worthwhile to enable msi logging and re-run the R2 upgrade and look at the logs. It sounds like your gut is telling you that something is not quite right due to the "complete very quickly " comment.

If the upgrade is not completing entirely, then utilities would not have any work to do. You may also try to rename your reports.dic file and re-run the upgrade as I have had issues with the installers and customized reports.

If you look at the DYNAMICS.DU00020 table what is the major version on your product? How about the minor version? Version Build?

Thanks Rich.  I checked and there's just one DSN, pointing to GP2010.

I would check your DSNs. It almost sounds like you have two DSNs with one pointing at the GP2010 data and the other pointing to GP 2010 SP2 (R2).

I did  run the patch Tim and it didn't make any difference.  I'm going to shut the machine down and try again from scratch.

    Thanks,

Did you run the patch in the Updates directory on the DVD Media??

This looks like what I ran into.
