GP2013 R2 bug with excel copy/paste

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have found that in some instances, a JE with a unit account will not paste properly. It treats the entry as though it were a posting account and causes it to be out of balance. I have tried formatting the field as a "number" or "general" and it doesn't matter. The oddest thing is that I have two unit accounts in the batch and it only throws an out of balance for one of them. If I cut the unit accounts out of the batch and paste them into the last rows, it works ok. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks!

    Hello Shiggins

Your questions have urged me to roll up my sleeves and get on my test environment to check whether there is  any issue with the unit accounts.

I have tried various scenarios on both; GP 2013 R2 and GP 2015, and I never find any issues with the copy/paste feature when unit accounts are included, the total of the debit and credit columns is not including the unit account value; which is the usual behavior, and the difference is zero.

Here is my testing scenario on Fabrikam

I have highlighted the cells above and placed the mouse cursor within the GL Transaction Entry grid, then clicked on the "Paste" button, here is the result

So, I suppose that there is no issues with the copy/paste functionality neither in 2013 R2 nor 2015. If you are following a different pattern to get this done, please feel free to share it with us.

Most importantly, remember to consider the order of the cells which are copied from Excel to Dynamics GP, which is :

Distribution Reference, Account Number, Debit , Credit

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

Have you tried to create a same entry manually?

Also attach the screenshot of the GL window.

    Hope this helps!!!
