Export data w/ GUID

I am trying to export data out of CRM 4 with the GUID and last modified (as explained in the help menu.)  I dont see that option...

This is from the help menu:

"If you may want to re-import the data, select Export columns required for re-importing data.
This adds two hidden columns: one containing the globally unique identifier (GUID) for the record, and one containing the date and time the record was last modified. Do not delete these columns, as they are required for re-importing the file. More information: Work with Imports"

any suggestions/ideas?  I want to ensure the data gets re-imported to the correct contact, without creating duplicate, and overwriting data that may have been updated since export.

Thanks,

DM

    Hi,

The re-import (data enrichment) feature was removed from Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 RTM version menu, although it still 'exists' in the help and guides. Funny enough, it can still be used (at your own risk). See the details here.

    Hope this helps,

    Yaniv,

Thank you for the reply.  that is unfortuanate that they removed that.  I was very excited to have that functionality.

Looked the blog post.  How do we get the GUIDs that correspond to the records I have exported?  I am looking to export, update and import 1000's of records.

     thx.

    follow these steps:

    • Export the view to Excel using the dynamic worksheet option
    • Open the Excel sheet, select all the records, go to format -> column -> unhide. You should see the GUIDs column
    • Rename the GUIDs column header to the name of the entity you are re-importing and move the column to the left
    • follow the blog instructions and you are done!

    Again, use with caution...

I cannot seem to get the GUID to export, even after following those steps. Any ideas? Did Microsoft remove this feature?

Make sure you select all the records in the Excel sheet, go to format -> column -> unhide. You should see the GUIDs column

Unfortunately, I tried that too and it didn't work. I am on the latest CRM update rollup 5 or 6, whatever it is. Does it only work with certain entities/views/columns or areas from within the CRM? It's odd.

Is it possible there is a server config setting for this, either in the GUI or in an xml config, somewhere?

Not that I know of. This is not a CRM issue, but Excel. Send me your Excel file to yaniv@e4d.co.il and I will try to find the problem.

    Hope this helps,

Yaniv is right, it's really just about marking ALL in Excel and pressing Unhide. It will work if you do it right!
