GP - Manufacturing BOM "Issue to" site

Posted on by 40

We need to do a mass update to change all of our BOM's "Issue to" site to one specific location. I see nothing in the front end of the application to do this so I am guessing SQL is our best option. I know this effects the BM010115 table but not sure what other tables may be impacted. Recently our Engineers were not populating this field with anything and the program was then pulling in the first routing and creating an assignment to this site. This is not what we would like and therefore we need to switch this up.

Any advise would be helpful.

    Dena,

Hopefully this is not too late, but it is BM010415 that you want to update.  That is the line file.  BM010115 is he header file.  It is merely a default.  There is a hierarchy that is searched when an MO is created.  The first in the hierarchy is the ISSUE TO of each component of the bom of the item being produced.  The field you will want to update is WCID_I in that table.  If you want to update BM010415, that is fine for future additions that might be made manually.

You may also want to ensure all relative components already have an item/site relationship in IV00102 as well before updating their BOM component record.

My suggestion would be, if not possible to do in a test environment first, update just a handful of records, enter mock MOs, and make sure you have what you want.

Thanks for the suggestion but I am not sure how I would be able to automate such a task. Some BOM's have up to 6 levels and can have as many as 300 items. You have to go to each component line (which varies) to enter the WCID. I ran a select query on the BM010115 and it returned 477056 rows of which 131220 rows have a value other than the WCID that we want.

I would rather use a Microsoft Dynamics GP macro instead of a SQL update. A macro might take 30 minutes of 1 hour, dependant on the number of BOMS, but it safer and it use user interface logic instead of the possibility to break something in the back end
