Financial dimensions in MFG order pick list show Finished product instead of Row material

Hi,

when we create a Pick list in the production order we have note that the value that come in the financial dimensions is related to finished product while the pick list item we are issue is ROW material, we have try this in AX 2012 R2 and R3 and same issue in different customer. the only work around we find that we remove the financial dimensions while create the MFG order then system read the financial dimensions for Row materials correct and after we complete the issue we re-enter the financial dimensions in the MFG order so we can complete the report as finish and end the MFG order. Default-Dim-show-FP-instead-if-RM.png

    Hi Mohamed Fathy,

You describe the standard behavior of AX. What is your question?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

,I assume this is for 'raw materials'.

It is useful to distinguish between the concepts of  'items', which can exist in inventory, and "components' which only exist in: BOMS, production orders and WIP,  i.e a component is a specialised use of the item within the context of a specific  BOM/order.  E.g the scrap allowance, or rounding  logic that is considered in its cost contribution to a production order/BOM might differ in each order/bom. and thus its cost of consumption will vary by order, and will not be the same as the cost inventory.

Inventory has  a financial dimension for the value of inventory.

Component costs belong to the parent item and thus use its financial dimension. (otherwise how would you aggregate all the component costs to one parent cost/order cost?)

    Hope that makes sense.

Thanks Ludwig Reinhard for your respond, actually this behavior is not fit our requirements because when you are issue a row material or picking material in the pick list the AX should show in the GL the RM or PM in the Financial dimensions not FP like when you create a movement out journal,  it pick the  item you are issue from the inventory. i hope i have clear my point.

    Hi Mohamed Fathy,

I understand your issue. If you can't use the standard functionality then your only option is to modify it. When it comes to financial dimensions those adjustments can however quickly become tricky because you also need to consider things like the effect of your adjustment in inventory closes and possibly other automatic system transactions.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Mohammed Fathy,

    I have the same issue.

    Have you solve this case?

Or do you have workaround for this? Because I use backflush costing which makes me unable to remove financial dimension.

    Thanks,

    M.H.

    Hi M. Hasan,

On re-reading this , I have to agree that this is really a long standing design fault. The problem is that the Raw Material issue from inventory is not being booked to the component dimension, and thus this means that a dimensional inquiry on that inventory account gives the wrong information by dimension..

If the raw material item's financial dimension is not used for the issue to production, then there seems little point in allowing users to specify it.

A comment/ suggestion on a  2016 AXIG post may give you  a way forward:

Production Order financial dimensions default to the financial dimensions of the released product. We had the same problem here when we set all of our items to the sales warehouse's financial dimensions instead of the manufacture's warehouse financial dimensions. We are currently changing the set up on the items to be the manufacture's warehouse dimensions. Our concern was making sure that the sales orders had the sale financial dimensions and they do because the financial dimensions set on the customer master override all others.    However, we did request a mod that pulls the financial dimensions of the Site that the production order is created in and it is working fine.

See my post today here community.dynamics.com/.../reply  which may provide the customisation you need. Please verify.

Even if we remove the Dimension Header of the Production Header, the Financial Dimension of the FG prevails.

We can manually change the Financial Dimension though on the picking list line by line. Or, we can remove the Default Dimension from the FG Released Products for the Raw Materials Consumption get their responding FG. But, this will not default Financial Dimension for the FG and will need to assign it on the Production Orders, Sales Orders, Transfers and Movements if we really don't want customization. It's  up to us then to decide which is more convenient? ^_^
