Reassigning Task on Opportunity DELETED the Task

Yesterday I went into Dynamics 2016 and reassigned 3 tasks as I do all the time by changing the Owner of the task, then clicking the save icon in the lower right. The tasks were on the opportunities, which are still intact. However, none of the new owners received the tasks. Once I heard this, I went to Settings > Auditing and pulled an audit log for the day, and it shows those 3 tasks as having been Deleted by my account. However, at no point did my mouse go anywhere near the delete button at the top of the page. I'm completely baffled as to why the system would have deleted those tasks when all I did was reassign them the same way I always do.

When I attempt to click on the deleted records in the audit log, I get the following message:

Record Is Unavailable

The requested record was not found or you do not have sufficient permissions to view it. If you contact support, please provide the technical details.

    I use the outlook plugin, but i never delete tasks. I only mark them complete if they're still showing up. However, the tasks in CRM were clearly deleted, not marked complete.

    Hello,

    Are you using CRM for Outlook? In that case if you are deleted  incomplete task from outlook  list .The task will delete from CRM.

    Are you using on premise? if so then you can get some information of the task from database. Please check below forum..

    OK.. it's a stretch, but do you have any recurring bulk delete jobs that might be responsible for this?

    I assigned them to someone else, but they told me they never received them (which is what got me looking). I was the only one making changes at the time, according to the log.

    The log shows me updating the tasks between 11:05 and 11:09 am, after which point I made no further changes in CRM. Then about 15 minutes later, all three tasks were deleted simultaneously at 11:26 am (according to the log, it was by my user account). I wasn't even using CRM at 11:26, as I was in a meeting at that time.

    Maybe I'd do a bit more digging to see what else is showing up in the audit log around that time (anything else was deleted?) Also, not that it's necessarily related, but did you assign those tasks to yourself or to somebody else? What about the opportunity, btw, is it still there or was it deleted?

    Yes, I did that and so far have been unable to reproduce it, but this is very concerning and we can't risk it happening again, especially on a large scale, so what we're looking for is an answer as to how this could have happened on these three tasks.

    Hi,

    You can try to create a dummy task and test again since you suspect this is a bug.

    No, we don't have any workflows or plugins that would do that. Prior to and since yesterday, we've not had this issue that I'm aware of, but the means of assigning tasks has not changed at all. I believe this to have been a bug, but of course Microsoft won't talk to me.

    Is it possible that you either have a workflow or plugin that executes when an assign is processed.

    The system will not delete a record when it is being assigned.
