gp9 to gp10 upgrade

Hello,

I am upgrading from GP9/SQL2005 Express/Win2k3 to a new server SQL2008Express/Win2k3 and am also upgrading from 9 to 10.  Can I just attach the GP9 company and Dynamics database and when I install Gp10 it would then do the necessary steps to upgrade to 10?  Or do I have to go through the 9 install steps on the new server THEN do the upgrade?

Thanks!

Follow the steps outlined in KB 878449 and you should be all set.

As Richard said, this is pretty well documented (excellent actually) in that KB article. Presuming you are using the same physical machine, you should have no problems attaching the databases and THEN installing dynamics. As you suspect, the upgrade process will be initiated by Dynamics utilities. You will still need access to the v 9 dictionaries in order to upgrade forms and reports.

WARNING - be sure to create package files for all of your customizations before doing the upgrade.

    Kind regards,

    Hello Leslie,

Thanks for your help.  My client's current 9.0 setup is very messy.  I want to just install a completely new server running SQL 2008 R2 Express with Advanced Features and just move the company DB and dynamics.  Do I still need to install 9.0 even in the "new" environment or can I just update the db's when installing 2010?  Thanks!

You need GP 9 on the new environment only if you are transferring security or upgrading modified forms or reports. You could just copy the GP code as you really only need the dictionary files for both of those processes.
