FEFO Date-controlled items with Automatic Item Reservation

Hi All,

Can you please suggest me if it is advisable to use Automatic reservation for FEFO Date-control enabled items with shelf life and criteria as Expiry date.

The SO lines are delivered in 2 lots and so need to be reserved separately each time picking the correct batch No.

The Storage dimensions selected- Site WH, Location, Pallet ID, Tracking Dimensions- Batch No.

Can you please advise if using Automatic reservation for these items will not affect the inventory in a wrong way.

I only see an issue if you have orders that are future delivery dates. Like say you take an order today and it is a month until the customer wants the goods delivered. It is not a good idea to reserve stock at that point...

    HI Vikas,

I believe using manual  reservation will defeat the purpose of FEFO Date controlled. As by doing manual reservation you can reserve a batch which is having a longer shelf life against a batch with a shorter one.

You should always use Automatic to ensure First expired batch is automatically reserved first for picking making sure that there is less inventory loss due to expiration in warehouse itself.

I would suggest if the delivery time is longer you should use the lock and unlock reservation to make changes to the automatic reservation if business requirement is  there.

Yes. Manual reservations doesn't make much sense, but I believe that the time of when the reservations are made is pretty imperative if you are reserving your batches.

You should do reservations as late as possible in your processes. That is why WHS is so great, because you can do reservations on a higher level (Like warehouse) and select the particular batches later at picking based on FEFO.

So if you do use Warehouse Management (WHS, not WMS I) you can use automatic reservations in any case. :)

    Hi Fredrik,

Which parameters or configuration would control the FEFO based reservation if the Reservation hierarchy includes batch? It used to be the item model group defining that, but I am unsure if that works in concert with the Reservation hierarchy.

    Thanks in advance.
