User Manager field

Could someone please refresh my memory about the user manager field in the user entity?

I am assuming that  users does not have any sort of privileges over other users they are set as manager of (this is handled via privileges in security roles).

So what is the manager field used for? Workflows? Some examples would be great!

Thanks everyone in advance for the help and support.

P.

    Hello,

This field can be used for the security configuration. You can check this - learn.microsoft.com/.../hierarchy-security

This field might be used in the approval process as an example.

Let's say Bob works as a sales manager and he has an allowance to close opportunities with 1000$ threshold. If the amount is greater it's possible to create an approval process that will involve Bob's manager to approve the opportunities that have more than 1000$ value.

Another example of usage of the manager field. Let's say Sara works as a support specialist and she receives the ticket. If the ticket stays untouched for 8 business hours it's possible to configure automation to notify Sara's manager that something is wrong with the ticket that is not resolved.

    Hi Pedro Innecco

It is used in the 'Hierarchy security'. For more details; learn.microsoft.com/.../hierarchy-security

    Hi Andrew,

In regards to security configuration, how does this overlap with security roles? I mean, if I allow for a manager to read its direct report data, but there is a contradiction in the security roles, how would that work?

    Hello,

That is a great question. According to what I see in Dynamics I believe the "higher privilege wins" rule works here.
