CRM custom workflow publisher prefix changed after deployment

We use CRM 2016 SP1. We deployed our latest changes from Dev to QA, staging and production by means of importing a managed solution file. As part of the solution file there is a custom Action workflow (Category = Action) with the publisher prefix set to our company name.

The workflow has been activated and working well in QA and staging but when trying to activate it on production CRM comes up with the error "Unexpected Error". Downloaded error details show the same message.

Upon investigating the workflow in production we realised that its publisher prefix has been changed to "new_". To be more specific, the Process Name property starts with the correct prefix name but the Unique Name property starts with "new_".

We have not made any changes to the workflow in Dev and it was working fine in production prior to the deployment.

So far my research on the Internet on how/why this change has come about and how to fix it has been in vain. So any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards

    Hi,

I really think those are two different workflows. Somebody created a workflow directly in production and used the same name..

Could you just put that single workflow into a separate solution file, export from dev, import to production, and post a screenshot from both dev and production for that solution (so we would see the prefix?)

Actually.. where do you see publisher prefix in the workflow name?

Hi Alex. Thanks for your reply. The workflow has been part of the system before and would work fine in previous deployments to production. Also, as the problem is on the production, I cannot do a test deployment. Any other ideas?

Alex, in order to see the prefix name on production,  I go to "Settings->Processes->All Processes", then select and double click the workflow. The Process Name property starts with the correct prefix name but the Unique Name property starts with "new_".

Is this a business process flow or is this a workflow? I don't see unique name for any of the worfklows in my environment. There is a unique name for the business process, though.

Alex, it's an Action workflow (Category = Action). Does this make a difference?

Which publisher is assigned to the solution you imported to production? It seems unique name prefix is inherited from the publisher during the import (even if you had a different prefix in the dev environment). Not sure it's by design, but that's definitely how it works - just tried here.

Update: It only seems to be happening when the action is newly created while importing the solution. Unique name prefix does not seem to get updated if the action had been there before.

Alex, as I said in the question, the publisher is set to our company name. The Process Name is set correctly But not the Unique Name.

I know for sure that that workflow is not new and has been part of our system for the last few months during which we have deployed the whole system solution to production a few times without this issue occurring. We know that Unique Name is set automatically based on the Process Name. So this is very strange.

    Hi,

I understand that - totally agree it is strange. Let's say there is an issue in this particular build of CRM (which I don't know about, just assuming). Which publisher is assigned to the solution in production? Just curious if that publisher has "new_" prefix..

Alex, sorry I missed the point in your question re the publisher. I thought you meant the publisher for the workflow name, The publisher set to the solution is also correct, ie the company name.
