Editable Grid (Limited amount of users)

Dear Dynamics Community,

I hope everybody is holding up good in these times.

I am experieincing a difficulty as I would like to enable the editable grid on one of our entities.

However, not all users should have access to the editable grid.

For example: Invoicing

1. Our Invoice Manager should have access to a editbale grid

2. Our general user should have this as a read only view (however, when opening the record they can modify)

Therefore my question is: Is it possible to enable editable grid for only a user based on its security role.

Or can we only enable the editable grid for a view and not for the other.

Thank you in advance for taking the time.

Kind regards,

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

    Thank you for your query.

There is not out-of-the-box feature that controls editable grid based on a role.

You can do this using following approaches:

    • Create separate forms form  Manager and General Users. Add editable grid on the Manager form and normal on the General form., Assign appropriate security roles on the form. Only problem here is that you have to manage two separate forms.
    •  Use JavaScript (onLoad) to lock the grid controls based on current user's security roles:

Or you can also add two grids (one normal other editable in different sections, and hide/show these sections based on user role).

    Hi  Rashid,

Thank you so much for your rapid reply. I appreciate it.

My preference would go to the the second option with two grids.

However, how would I create a view that is is read only and how do I create a view that is editable.

As I thought it was entity related.

    Kind regards,

    Hi,

When you add a subgrid on the form, you can add editable control (to make it editable):

As shown in the above image, Click on the controls tab (subgrid), click on Add Control and choose Editable Grid, finally enable it on the Web.

If you do not add this control the subgrid will act like a normal grid.

You can read about it here:
